Athletics

Whether athletics is your passion, hobby or something you would like to try for the first time, Be Well have the facilities, equipment and expertise to suit you! To view our timetable and book a session, click on the ‘book’ button. 

Athletics Sports Courses & training

Whether you are honing your running technique or looking to introduce your child to physical activity, our athletics courses are a good place to start. We work closely with England Athletics and qualified coaches to ensure you’re offered expert guidance. Join over 400 children and 100 adults every week who currently attend our athletics lessons and courses. You will also find term-time lessons and courses for children of all ages and abilities. Not only do these courses offer an excellent opportunity to develop fitness, agility and technical knowledge in a range of sports and athletic disciplines, they are also fun and designed with safety in mind.  

Athletics  Course Structure

Designed to provide your child with a diverse range of fitness skills, our athletics training courses focus on developing seven key principles:

  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Agility
  • Flexibility
  • Strength
  • Stamina
  • Speed

Our fun and engaging athletics classes are divided into levels, helping your child to meet and socialise with others their age and train according to their abilities. These levels are:

Pre-school
Ages 3-5

These athletics classes help your child to develop balance and coordination through structured play. Children will enjoy a range of running, jumping and throwing games, to help them grow their motor skills and hand-eye coordination, as well as learn from and interact with children their own age.

Multi-skills
Ages 5-7

Using classic playground games these athletics lessons will develop your child’s fundamental movement skills, especially their running technique and speed. Through play, they’ll learn balance, coordination and agility. With fun as a priority, your child can learn essential fitness skills while having a great time.

Athletic Fundamentals
Ages 8-9

Our Athletic Fundamentals lessons build on our Multi-skills programme, focusing on developing complex moving patterns by introducing kids to athletic sports like javelin, hurdles and high jump. We also introduce teamwork skills through competitive games and cooperative play to keep everything fun and accessible.

Athletic Skills
Ages 10-13

These sessions bridge the gap between fun and technical development as they introduce your child to the complete range of athletic events, with an emphasis on fitness and conditioning. To introduce a focus on performance, kids will also practice training concepts during these sessions, helping them to develop their technical understanding of athletic training. Each session will feature a technical element of athletics training, a fitness element, skill development and a team based game.

Athletics Academy
Ages 10-13

Our Athletics Academy sessions provide club-level training to help your child grow their skills in key event groups like sprints, endurance, jumps and throws. These athletics classes are different from our Athletics Skills sessions as they focus heavily on performance, helping kids develop their fitness and conditioning in line with professional training.

Basketball

Fancy shooting some hoops?
Look no further!

We offer a variety of basketball activities, including private hire. We also have courses from learning the basics all the way to polishing up those three pointers, and if you’re ready, we hold basketball leagues where you can show off those free throws. 

Basketball lessons

Taught by qualified instructors, these lessons will improve your game by focusing on fundamentals like dribbling, shooting and passing.

Basketball court hire

When you hire a court at Be Well, you can spend your time how you like. That’s why we offer a range of activities and hire options from expert-led lessons for under 18s, which focus on fundamentals, to full court hire so you can play a game or two.

Football

Shoot…score!

Whatever your age or ability, we have the football facilities to suit you. From joining lessons, to crafting your skills, or hiring our pitches and halls for your club and social games, we can help you every step of the way.

Pitch hire near me

We have a variety of football pitches available across the borough, so you can train and play whatever the weather. Pitch types include:

  • Grass
  • 3G
  • Astro turf
  • Tarmac
  • Five-a-side
  • Seven-a-side

All pitches are bookable through PlayFootball with the exception of John Orwell Sports Centre.

Casual Play

Whether you want to play a 5-a-side match or train, Be Well has a number of football centres that you can book. So why not grab your friends and get on the ball? Online bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance.

Football School

When it comes to football training for kids, we put fun at the heart of our curriculum. We provide the best possible environment to learn, develop and make new friends and deliver sessions that are simple and fun.

Football Parties

Treat your child to a special junior football birthday at your local Be Well leisure centre. We’ll give them a party that gets the whole playground talking and handle everything from the invitations, party hats and food as well as cleaning up afterwards.
